Border agent freed of drug charges

Arizona residents are naturally concerned about criminal activity in their state. There can be many forms of crimes about which people hear. Drug crimes can often receive a lot of press due to the proximity to the Mexican border. Not all allegations, however, are always true and the importance of a solid criminal defense against these charges cannot be underestimated.

Sometimes it is the people commissioned with upholding the laws that are found guilty of crimes involving drugs at the border. Between 2005 and 2012 as many as 144 employees from either the customers or border protection offices were either indicted or arrested for their involvement in illegal affairs. One recent case against a United States customs agent based out of the Lukeville border crossing location was dropped because the drug-related charges were deemed unprovable in court according to reports.

The man had worked at Lukeville for 10 years after leaving a 20-year period of service in the military. Accusations against him included bribery and computer fraud as well as assisting with funneling monies received from drug sales. The nature of the case dismissal prevents any further filing of charges against the defendant for the same situation. The defense alleged that some of the methods used to bring charges against the agent were not necessarily appropriate.

Drug charges can focus on a range of actions including possession of drugs, possession with intent to sell and more. People who are accused of these types of crimes may be best helped by talking with an experienced attorney.
