Emotions overrun defendant in murder trial

A criminal defense can be filled with many challenges for defendants. Arizona residents who are accused of serious charges can face several years in prison or, in extreme situations, even the death penalty. From an assault charge to a murder charge, the range of situations is broad but the need and right for a proper defense stands strong.

One local woman is currently on trial for the alleged murder of her husband five years ago. If convicted, she could be sentenced to death, as that is being sought by the prosecution. An article in the local news recently reported on a difficult day in court for the defendant. The woman was noted to have become very emotional and broken down crying upon listening to very detailed testimony from a brain surgeon.

The judge initially requested a break in the proceedings but eventually ordered the jury to go home for the rest of the day. He further indicated that subsequent displays of emotion will not be accepted in his courtroom and that, if the defendant could not prevent such actions, she would not be allowed in the courtroom for the remainder of the trial. He stated that a deputy would be asked to take her out of the room in the event of future problems.

Certainly the nature of a felony charge and associated penalties can be emotional for a defendant. Working with a trusted private attorney may be helpful for people facing such circumstances. The right experience can help people to navigate this very challenging experience.
