Man accused of murder and child abuse in Phoenix

Arizona residents may enjoy a wealth of sunny days compared with much of the rest of the country but that does not always protect against some challenges or dangers. Serious crimes such as weapons crimes, aggravated assault, felony assault, rape, murder and more can and do occur in Phoenix-area neighborhoods.

A 12-year old boy was recently the victim of an apparent murder at his home on a Wednesday evening. The boy and his 27-year old brother were home alone while their mother and sisters had gone out to dinner. The brother has been arrested and charged with the younger boy’s death as well as with child abuse. The defendant has a prior police record that includes resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, DUI and assault.

According to a news report, the older sibling made a 911 call from a nearby location saying that he had just stabbed another person. Police found him with blood on his person and clothing. He later told police that he simply felt like killing. Meanwhile, the victim was found with stab wounds at the home, where he was pronounced dead. The article indicates that the defendant has had problems with mental illness and addiction. It also said that he requested to be taken to a mental institution instead of to jail when he made the 911 call.

Situations like these can be hard for all involved. Certainly for defendants, the need for care and experience with a good defense is critical. Anyone who may be facing prison time for felonies may wish to talk to a private defense attorney for help.
