Sex crimes with minors result in 24-year jail sentence

People who are charged with serious crimes may or may not be convicted of all alleged offenses. The law’s requirement that every accused person be provided the opportunity for a criminal defense can make a big difference in the outcome of a case versus what may appear at the outset. Arizona criminal law covers a wide range of activities including drug crimes, fraud, vehicular crimes, sex crimes and more. In each of these cases, a defense is an important component.

A 41-year old Arizona man was originally charged with 13 different crimes. He was recently convicted and sentenced to 24 years in prison for child molestation, furnishing obscene materials and some other charges. His wife has already been sentenced to 18 months in prison for child abuse for her role in the matter. According to a news report, the wife was aware of the activities of her husband but never reported them.

The man was a school bus driver with the Deer Valley Unified School District. He was arrested in June 2012 and later admitted to sexually assaulting a child and to creating pornographic materials with a child. A media article indicated that the defendant had shown inappropriate materials to a 10-year old boy, including pornographic pictures containing a six-year old boy.

A criminal trial can be a challenging experience and always poses the potential for serious long-term consequences for the defendant. Anyone facing such charges could be helped through the process by a private defense attorney and may wish to contact one as soon as an arrest is made.
