Man killed in accident with alleged drunk driver

Drivers in and around Phoenix know that the state’s laws are strict when it comes to driving under the influence of alcohol. A drunk driving conviction can result in steep financial penalties as well as potential jail time, the ordered installation and use of an ignition interlock device and more. If an accident is part of a drunk or drugged driving arrest the consequences can become even more severe.

A super extreme DUI situation is another opportunity for very serious results for those facing charges. This can happen when a driver’s blood alcohol content is excessively high. According to the law, a person is considered intoxicated with a BAC of 0.08 percent or greater. A woman was recently arrested with a BAC of 0.31 percent. Her arrest came after a collision on Cactus Road near 38th Street in the early morning hours on a Saturday.

The woman’s vehicle hit the car in front of it, sending it off the road. The front vehicle struck both a wall and a tree. The 47-year old man driving the first car was killed in the accident. The allegedly intoxicated woman was taken to the hospital as well and it was there that police arrested her and charged her with manslaughter for the death of the other driver. Her bond was set at $7,500. News reports did not indicate if she was also charged with felony drunk driving for her very high blood alcohol content at the time.

This is an example of an incident which can result in long-lasting consequences for the defendant. The process may not be easy but a defense is her right. Anyone who finds themselves in such a situation may consider a consultation with a lawyer to learn what options exist for the defense process.
