Four men charged with conspiring to import pot, other drug crimes

Over the years, law enforcement has taken steps to crack down on the drug trafficking that occurs between Arizona and Mexico. This includes implementing measures to try to seize the drugs. If believed to be involved in drug importation and relating activities, people could face serious charges with significant penalties.

Four men are facing federal drug charges for allegedly conspiring to bring over 1,000 kilograms of marijuana into the U.S. from Mexico. One of them works as an agent with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and is stationed right on the border, in Douglass. The Cochise Border Corruption Task Force reportedly arrested the men, but no details were reported regarding the circumstances of their arrests. It remains unknown to the public at this time if the Task Force had been investigating the men.

According to reports, the border agent is facing 34 counts, including importing marijuana into the U.S., possession with the intent to distribute and relating conspiracy charges. The other men are facing fewer counts of the same charges. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent and one of the other men have been released on bond. It was not disclosed whether bonds had been set for the other two, who were still in custody at last report. Three of the men, including the border agent, have been arraigned and pleaded not guilty. Their trial is set for June.

Being charged with drug crimes is very serious and there can be heavy consequences if convicted. As such, it may be of benefit for people who find themselves facing such charges to consult with a legal professional to discuss their rights and options. An attorney may help them determine the best course of action for their situation, and establish a defense for the charges against them.
