Traffic stop leads to drug seizure, arrest for man near Ashfork

Sometimes, routine traffic stops in Maricopa County, and throughout Arizona, lead to criminal charges beyond just a traffic ticket. If law enforcement officers have probable cause, they may conduct searches, which could turn up evidence of other offenses, including drug crimes. As a result, people may face penalties beyond the fines, or other consequences, that a ticket may incur.

According to reports, a 39-year-old man was arrested near Ashfork recently following a traffic stop. It was not reported what caused law enforcement officers to pull over the man’s vehicle. Authorities purportedly found a number of packages of marijuana after searching his vehicle. News sources reported that 142 pounds in total were seized. Law enforcement officers initiated the search because the man’s vehicle smelled strongly of marijuana.

It remains unknown to the public at this time what specific offenses the man has been charged with. He was, however, taken into custody. At last report, the man was being held on an $110,00 bond at the Camp Verde Detention Center. News sources did not indicate whether he plans to plead guilty to the charges against him, or if he will fight them.

Drug crimes, including drug importation and possession with the intent to sell, are considered serious offenses in the state of Arizona. Consequently, those who are facing such charges could face a range of penalties, including jail time. As such, people who have been charged with drug-related offenses may consider obtaining legal representation. An attorney may answer any questions they may have, as well as help them to ensure that their rights are upheld.
