What are some unknown facts about IIDs?

Have you been convicted of drunk driving in Arizona? If so, one of the things you may need to know about is how ignition interlock devices work. While it may be commonly known that IIDs prevent you from starting your vehicle until you pass a breath test, there are many details about these devices that you do not know but should.

One of the most important things you should be aware of is how some of your most basic behaviors may affect the performance of your IID. As explained by Intoxalock, you should not brush your teeth, use mouthwash or even eat or drink anything other than water immediately before taking a breath test with an ignition interlock device. All of these things may interfere with an accurate reading and prevent you from starting your vehicle.

Once you are on the road, you should be prepared to take other tests at random times. This means you will not be able to eat or drink anything other than water while you are driving. No more lattes on the way to work or sandwiches to get you through a long road trip.

If you are not going to drive your vehicle for more than a couple of days, you may need to at least start it and let it run for 10 or so minutes in order to avoid the unit from putting too much drain on your vehicle battery. IIDs may also have power saving modes that you can use to reduce the load on your battery.
